Antibiotic resistance profiles of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates containing virulence genes
Background: A most common opportunistic pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is present in both humans and animals and responsible for various nosocomial infections and healthcare settings related infections. Different virulence genes like; oprL (membrane lipoprotein L) and toxA (exotoxin A i.e. ETA) in P. aeruginosa, assist in its pathogenicity, toxicity and contribute to high antibiotic resistanc...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance genes and virulence factors in Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis from diseased farm animals: pigs, cattle and poultry.
Eighty enterococcal isolates (E. faecium, n = 38, E. faecalis, n = 42) from diseased farm animals (swine, cattle, poultry) in Lithuania have been studied for the prevalence of antibiotic resistance and for resistance and virulence genetic determinants. 86% of E. faecium and 71% of E. faecalis isolates were multidrug resistant (resistant to three or more unrelated antibiotics). Resistance to ami...
متن کاملDistribution of cylA, esp, asa1, hyl and gelE virulence genes among clinical isolates of Enterococcus faecium and Entrococcus faecalis
Background Enterococci are opportunistic pathogens causing severe urinary tract infections, surgical wound infections, bacteremia and bacterial endocarditis. Aggregation substance (asa1), hemolysin/ cytolysin (cylA), gelatinase (gelE), enterococcal surface protein (esp), hyaluronidase (hyl) and biofilm formation are the major virulence determinants responsible for pathogenicity of enterococci. ...
متن کاملTransferable, plasmid-mediated vanB-type glycopeptide resistance in Enterococcus faecium.
An approximately 60-kb transferable, vanB-carrying plasmid has been identified in a clinical Enterococcus faecium strain. A similar plasmid has been observed in an unrelated E. faecium strain, suggesting that plasmid transfer of vanB operons occurs in nature and plays a role in the dissemination of VanB-type resistance among strains of E. faecium.
متن کاملdetermination of vancomycin resistant enterococcus faecium diversity in tehran sewage using plasmid profile, biochemical fingerprinting and antibiotic resistance
conclusions: the combination of plasmid profiling and php techniques revealed the presence of diverse population of vre in sewage treatment plant in tehran. furthermore, the results showed that the php technique is a reliable method in determining the vre clonal diversity. results: all isolates were found to be resistant to erythromycin, ampicillin and ciprofloxacin. the pcr analyses showed tha...
